What is Shutl?

Shutl is a service that connects your favourite retailers with local same-day courier companies. Whether buying online or instore, Shutl offers you two simple delivery options:

Immediate delivery within as little as 90 minute
Pick a 1 hour delivery window, 24 hours a day / 7 days a week*

How does Shutl work?

Shutl’s clever technology aggregates capacity across a network of couriers.  We integrate directly with the retailer’s systems, displaying as a branded delivery option on their website.    Our platform enables us to pick the best carrier for each delivery, taking into account everything from price to customer service history.  The selected courier then collects your purchase from your local store and delivers it straight to your home or office.   You can even track your deliveries in real time on a GPS-enabled map.

Who should use Shutl?

Shutl is for everyone. Why use a slow and inconvenient delivery service when Shutl can deliver your shopping now, or at a time that suits you? Shutl is particularly suited to people who:

  • shop online but would prefer their purchases straight away
  • buy instore but want their purchases delivered
  • hate waiting for delivery and would rather specify a delivery hour – whatever time or day of the week
  • can’t bear the hassle of visiting the high street – transport, parking, congestion charge, going from shop to shop in search of an item

What’s different about Shutl?

Shutl is a revolutionary new service.   It is nothing like the ‘same-day’ delivery services offered recently by several online retailers.  These services often require shoppers to order before an early cut-off time to get delivery during a lengthy delivery window that evening.  They also come at a fairly significant cost.  By comparison, Shutl offers delivery in minutes (or at a time of your choice) for a cost that is comparable to standard delivery. Wow!

How much does Shutl delivery cost?

Here’s the best bit! In most cases Shutl delivery is comparable to the cost of standard multi-day delivery, and in many cases it will be even cheaper! This is possible because:

  • For many deliveries, same-day couriers are more cost effective than the next-day carriers that retailers currently use.
  • We let courier companies sell their short-term spare capacity, enabling us to offer prices below those which would normally be viable.
  • Shutl benefits from volume discounts on our carriers’ standard pricing.

What is “Shutl now”?

“Shutl now” means that we will send your purchase to you straight away. This usually means within 90 minutes, however it may  be longer depending upon the distance and the vehicle type required for the delivery.  We will let you know the exact time promise in your confirmation e-mail.

What is “Shutl later”?

“Shutl later” allows you to choose a convenient 1 hour delivery window either on the same day or any day in the future.  For example when you get home from work, or whilst you’re available at your desk between meetings.

Can I specify a time for the delivery to me made?

Yes you can. You simply select “shutl later” and you’ll be prompted to specify a one hour window in which you would like the delivery to made.

What happens if I am not in?

The flexibility of the service offered by Shutl means that you can have your purchase delivered at a time that suits you – meaning that you should be available to take receipt of the delivery. If, due to unforeseen circumstances, you are not going to be available, the best thing is to contact our Customer Services team who will be able to help you.  If the courier arrives at the delivery address and you are not there, we will ring you to get further instructions. Options open to you are:

  • to have your items left with a neighbour
  • to have your items left somewhere secure
  • to have your items delivered to an alternative address*
  • to have your items redelivered at another time*

In the event that we are unable to reach you we will return the purchase to the retailer who will refund you the purchase minus the Shutl delivery charge.

* These options will result in an additional charge

Who will deliver the item to me?

One of our approved same-day courier firms will deliver your goods to you. We select the courier based upon several key criteria:

  • their ability to deliver within the agreed timescales
  • the feedback on their service left by other Shutl customers
  • their quote for the delivery

How can I give my own feedback?

On receiving your delivery you will be sent a link to the feedback page on our website. Here you can rate the service provided to you by our courier and leave your comments, allowing us to ensure that the next Shutl delivery is even better!

Can anything be Shutl’d to me?

There are some restrictions on what we can shutl to you and this is normally based around the size of the item. If we are unable to deliver a certain item to you, then Shutl will not be displayed as a delivery option.

What if something happens to my purchase?

Our delivery service is backed by insurance cover which, in the unlikely event of something happening to your purchase during delivery, a replacement delivery will be made as quickly as possible.

Will I have to sign for the delivery?

Yes, the courier will require a signature for the delivery.  We cannot deliver unless you instruct us otherwise.

How do you know which type of vehicle to send?

We base the vehicle choice on the dimensions of the item given to us by the retailer. This means that the most efficient vehicle for the delivery is always used.

Can I track my delivery?

Most of the courier firms we use provide real-time GPS tracking. When they do, we will give you access to that information so that you can see exactly where your delivery is at any moment in time.

Can I use Shutl to return items?

The process for returning items varies across the different retailers that we work with and the circumstances surrounding the return. If you are faced with such a situation then just give Customer Services a call and they will be able to guide you through the process.

Does Shutl only operate in London?

Although we are starting in London, we plan to roll out across the rest of the UK later in 2011, with world domination shortly thereafter!

Why is my delivery window no longer available?

At the time you have requested the quote or have chosen to check out, the “Shutl Later” time window you have selected is no longer available. Please return to the quote page and select another time window.
